Why your website gets no leads
People come, read, and leave. The cause is almost never the design, and almost always one of seven things below. Six of them you can check yourself in twenty minutes.
I answer within one working day, in writing. I never call.
Why redesigning rarely helps
When leads stop, the first instinct is to change how the site looks. That is the most expensive way to test a guess. A site is a path: someone arrives, understands what you do, believes it, and finds a way to write. A break in that path costs you customers no matter how the page looks. Redesign moves the furniture; it does not fix the path.
What actually breaks the path
The form asks too much
Every field costs you replies. Name, phone, email, company, budget, comment: by the fifth field most people are gone. To start a conversation you need one contact, the rest you can ask in that conversation.
It is not clear what you do
The first screen says «solutions for your business» instead of «we make fences». A person who does not understand in three seconds does not scroll, and no button will save that.
There is nothing to trust
No names, no numbers, no cases, no faces. A stranger asks for money and shows nothing. Even one honest case with figures changes this more than a new colour scheme.
The phone version is an afterthought
Most visitors arrive on a phone held in one hand. If the button is below the fold, the text is small and the form jumps under the keyboard, the desktop version does not matter.
It is slow where your clients are
It opens instantly on your office wifi and takes six seconds on 4G in the street. People do not wait, and they do not tell you that they left.
The path to writing is hidden
One button at the very bottom, after eight screens. The moment someone decides to write is not the moment they reach the end of the page.
You cannot see where they leave
Without analytics every conclusion is a guess. The most common surprise: people do reach the form and abandon it half-filled.
Four ways to spend without fixing anything
- Ads on top of a broken page. More traffic to a site that loses people means paying more per lost person.
- Redesign as an answer to «no leads». Without knowing where people drop off, a new design is a new guess at the same price.
- A chatbot instead of a fix. A bot on a page that fails to explain what you sell only annoys people faster.
- SEO before the page converts. Getting more visitors to a page that does not work is the most patient way to waste money.
How to check it yourself
Open your site on your phone, on mobile data, not wifi. Count the seconds until the first screen appears. Read the first sentence and ask whether a stranger understands what you sell. Then try to write to yourself: count the taps and the fields. Anything over two taps and one field is where you lose people. Finally, look at your analytics for the drop between «reached the form» and «sent it». If you have no analytics, that is cause number seven and the first thing to fix.

How many leads is normal?
There is no universal number: it depends on traffic, niche and price. What matters is the trend and the cost of one request. If nobody writes at all, the problem is not the rate, it is the path.
Should I redo the site or fix the current one?
Fix first. Rebuilding is justified when the site cannot be changed at reasonable cost, not when leads dropped last month.
Does design matter at all?
Yes, but as trust and clarity, not as decoration. A clean page that explains and proves beats a beautiful one that does neither.
Can you look at my site?
Yes. I record five minutes of video showing the three places where you lose enquiries, free, three a week. Send the link.
Do you call?
No. I answer in writing, within one working day, in the channel you left.
